چکیده

Path finding has focused primarily on collision free paths that are smooth and short. However, in todays computer games, it is often desired to stay out of sight of enemies and, as a result, close to obstacles. In this paper we propose a method that uses an existing roadmap and produces a set of corridor polygons from which a path is generated. Weights calculated from tactical data can be specified both on the nodes of the roadmap and on points in the corridor polygon. These weights influence the way the path is generated. Experiments show that the corridor polygons cover the free space well. They also show that the final path of the character stays close to the obstacles and avoids dangerous areas.

Smoothing Voronoi-Based Path with Minimized Length and Visibility Using Composite Bezier Curves

We present an obstacle avoiding path planning method based on a Voronoi diagram. We use a tactical visibility measure to obtain the shortest path length with the lowest local probability to be discovered based on the map topology. A Voronoi-based navigation mesh for finding the shortest smooth path with the lowest visibility along the path is used. The piecewise linear rough path in the Voronoi...

Tactical Path Finding in Urban Environments

In this paper we address the problem of finding paths for small groups of characters in an urban environment taking tactical information into account. This approach presents a way to plan the paths using an existing road map and extending this to a network of corridors. The road map is searched for a globally useful path, after which the corresponding corridors are traversed to find a tacticall...

A Situation-Driven Adaptive Pilot/Vehicle Interface

This paper describes an effort under way to develop pilot/vehicle interface (PVI) concepts that use computational situation assessment models and pilot workload metrics to drive the content, format, and modality of cockpit displays. The goal of this research is to develop PVI concepts that support a tactical pilot’s situation awareness and decision-making. The envisioned system is driven by two...

A topographic-awareness and situational-perception based mobility model with artificial bee colony algorithm for tactical MANET

A topographic-awareness and situational-perception based mobility model with path optimization for tactical MANET is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a formalized process is constructed to generate a random acceleration on nodes as the disturbance caused by small-scale topographic factors in the battlefield. Secondly, a path optimization method with the artificial bee colony algorithm is introd...

Modelling Human-like Behavior through Reward-based Approach in a First-Person Shooter Game

We present two examples of how human-like behavior can be implemented in a model of computer player to improve its characteristics and decision-making patterns in video game. At first, we describe a reinforcement learning model, which helps to choose the best weapon depending on reward values obtained from shooting combat situations. Secondly, we consider an obstacle avoiding path planning adap...
